Assignment Brief
Some predict we face grim times ahead! Many ‘places’ where we live, socialise, celebrate sport, performance or art and culture feel the need to try to capture new visitors in these time of austerity.
You are required to design and make a most marvellous mechanical coin operated reward dispensing machine that presents the ‘essence’ of a ‘place’. The ‘i-Tingle’ does not require lasers or an orchestra; it should be mechanically and visually interesting and include sound outputs. Perhaps a historical feel could be exploited, perhaps a cultural feel. You are at liberty to determine your own 'context' linked to ‘place’ of your choice.
The i-tingle experience is not necessarily a complex assignment; the level of complexity will be up to you. You should refer to the attached ‘system overview’ and be guided by your tutor in relation to the essential system requirements and the wisdom of taking advantage of the suggested, or any other, extension opportunities.
NOTE: A key requirement is that the mechanical device and dispensing mechanism must be constructed within a footprint of a 200mm x 200mm x 300mm; however some planes may be extended beyond this, but the ‘heart’ of the device must fit within that frame.
The Assessment
Whilst greater technological complexity will deservedly gain you extra marks, you should not compromise functionality and quality of manufacture. Be aware, we will reward risk, but an over complex intention which may fail to be realised may gain fewer marks than a well made fully functioning but less ambitious submission. It is also worth considering the long term value of having completed an exemplar project that can be used by you when teaching in school. It is not easy to find the opportunity to spend time developing much needed resources whilst teaching full time. Take this opportunity to produce something that will be of use in the future?
Your ‘Tingleairium Experience’ must culminate in a high quality, well made, fully functioning product prototype which MUST operate 3 times during demonstration.
